Cycling Accidents are Increasing in Fairfax County in 2013

Fairfax County Bike crashes are up 26%

There were 106 reportable crashes involving bicycle list in 2012. This number is up considerably to the 84 reported accidents in 2011. Some credit the increase to a rising number of people bicycling for recreation or as a daily commute. The Fairfax County government has created a map to better show where the accidents are occurring. The goal is to establish a trend and tried to point out the troubled spots were accidents are recurring. Improvements have not yet been discussed but are expected to follow the final analysis of the report. Fairfax County is not alone as other areas in Northern Virginia and southern Maryland have also seen an increase in bicycling accidents.
